Wow. I'm scratching my head at the reviews that say this bag is too small. Unless you're gunning for bear and trying to bring enough gear for an extremely versatile shoot, this bag holds plenty.
I just reconfigured it to hold my D3000 body and 18-105mm zoom (attached) and 50mm lens. As I have it configured, the bag would easily hold a larger zoom such as the 24-120mm (in addition to the 18-105mm) and I could probably still fit in my 50mm as well. And that's just the camera area. Anyone who can't easily fit this much gear in the bag just needs to play with the velcro adjustable inserts. They're very versatile and will hold a surprising amount of gear nice and snugly.
The bag also holds my battery charger and backup battery easily in the front pouch as well as my jump drive and backup memory card with space for even a few other small items if needed, and there's a full-footprint pouch inside the top flap I have yet to tap. It would easily hold my manual plus other slim goodies. After all this, I still have an inch or so of crush space above the body and lenses where I could fit soft accessories if I wanted. If anything, I'd happily sacrifice an inch or so of depth off the top to make it even sleeker, but that's me -- when I'm shooting I like as little bulk as possible. As it is, the bag is barely larger than those slim camera-and-lens-only bags shaped like a trapezoid that don't hold anything else. This bag is just very, very well thought-out.
The bad is adequately padded (no, it won't survive a falling piano, but unless you're an animal with your gear or work some rough jobs (and maybe you do), this bag will protect your equipment just fine. I find it the ideal compromise between lightweight gear and yet big enough to carry a wide range of basics.
The DVD is another story: If you're new to photography, you might find it helpful, but if you've been shooting for any time, forget it. But don't worry; the bag itself is more than worth the price all by itself.
